Tallest Christmas cupcake tree: world record set in Hyderabad

Culinary Academy of India (CAI) has set their third world record

The 57-foot tall Christmas tree had 51 ‘tiered’ branches, with numerous cupcakes adorning each of its branches. In all, the CAI chefs used 7,500 cupcakes, weighing 850 kg for the cupcake Christmas tree.

Hyderabad , India --Adding flavor to Christmas celebrations in the city, The Culinary Academy of India (CAI), under the guidance of Director and Chef Sudhakar N. Rao, created a 57.5-foot ( 17.526 m ) tall Christmas tree made of cupcakes, by using7,500 cupcakes, weighing 850 kg, the Christmas tree sets the new world record for the Tallest Christmas cupcake tree , according to the Academy of World Records.

The brain behind the cupcake, Sudhakar Rao, Director, CAI, said: “We have used cupcakes of three different sizes and more than 20 flavours, including strawberry, pineapple, coconut, chocolate etc. The cupcakes were garnished with sugar paste flowers, edible Christmas goodies, chocolate butterflies and edible sprinklers,”The Telangana Today reports.

The cupcake Christmas tree was made at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh with 100 budding chefs and 20 faculty members working on the structure for a week.

Around 100 budding chefs and 20 faculty members worked on the structure for a week and produced fresh cupcakes in the last 48 hours.

Claiming the cupcake Christmas tree to be the tallest in the world, Sudhakar Rao said the 57.5- foot ( 17.526 m ) tall gigantic cupcake tree broke the previous record set by chefs in South Africa who managed to prepare a 40-foot cupcake Christmas tree using 4,000 cupcakes.


The cup cakes have had flavors like chocolate, red velvet, strawberry, lemon, pineapple, orange, mocha, coconut, pistachio & so on and will be piped with various icings.

The Cup Cakes were intricately decorated with components like sugar paste flowers, edible Christmas goodies, chocolate butterflies, edible sprinklers, M&M’s, etc.

Around 100 budding chefs from final years & post graduates under the guidance of experienced faculty, trainers & alumni worked on the structure for a week in advance and produced the fresh cup cakes in 48 working hours rotating in shifts to give the best quality product in huge numbers.
